During last week’s Safety 2015 event—the annual conference of the American Society of Safety Engineers—Thom Kramer was named the Safety Professional of the Year. This award is given annually to recognize a safety professional who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the safety field while making significant contributions to advancing the safety profession.
Kramer is an internationally recognized expert in applying engineering and safety practices, particularly in the area of fall protection. He is Vice Chair of the ANSI Z359 Fall Protection Committee, and he has been instrumental in the development of several ANSI standards that affect active fall protection systems. He also serves as the president of the International Society for Fall Protection, which has allowed him to travel around the world learning about and teaching others about fall safety.
Based on his 20 years of experience and his focus on protecting workers at height, Mr. Kramer was nominated by the ASSE Engineering Practice Specialty. According to committee members, he was an obvious choice due to his passionate work on ANSI Standards, as well as his active participation in ASSE.
“It is an honor to be selected for such a prestigious award,” Kramer said. “Still, my true rewards come from knowing that my work makes a difference in people’s lives – allowing them to return home to their families in one piece.”
Congratulations Thom.
