This week, OSHA has organized a safety stand down to raise awareness about fall hazards in construction. Falls are the #1 cause of fatalities in construction and the #4 cause of occupational fatalities overall. In 2012, falls accounted for 269 of the 775 construction fatalities recorded.
Those deaths were preventable, and OSHA is inviting all employers to participate in the stand down to encourage proactive planning and training to avoid fall fatalities and injuries.
OSHA’s safety stand down is in line with LJB’s focus on reducing risk for all workers at heights. In support of the stand down, we are hosting a free webinar on Thursday, June 5 from 12-1 p.m. We have also published a 4-minute video on fall prevention and protection best practices. It is a short reminder of some basic protection measures that all employees can take to minimize the risks of falls.
I hope you will participate in this week’s safety stand down. Together, we can create a safer environment for workers at heights.
