Many building owners want their projects to harmonize with their external environments. Sometimes that’s easier said than done. For its new headquarters in Kemptville, Ontario, Grenville Mutual Insurance tapped into the architectural flexibility of tilt-up construction to ensure the building fit in with its natural surroundings.
The owner’s vision was brought to life with a select group of tilt-up wall panels that were cast over an embossed tree-patterned formliner, creating an authentic forest look. Surrounding wall panels include accent textures and natural hand-set stones to continue the unique exterior.
Seamlessly joining the formliner on-site and in changing weather conditions presented one of the greatest challenges to the project’s builder, SiteCast Construction Corporation of Ottawa, Ontario. Capitalizing on their experience from building hundreds of architectural tilt-up panels, though, they solved the challenge and delivered the customized, organic look the owner desired.
The impressive appearance of this building earned the project a 2013 Building of the Year award through the CON/STEEL Building Program. Click here to see a video highlight of the project.
