Amelia Island, Florida, was buzzing with excitement Wednesday night as the 22nd Annual Tilt-Up Achievement Awards were announced. LJB Inc. and our design and construction partners were among the award recipients receiving recognition from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA) for three projects. Congratulations to our partners – STAR Inc., The Korte Company and SAA Architecture – and many thanks to my teammates at LJB for their contributions on these award-winning projects:
The 110,000-square-foot, three-story medical office building highlights the architectural flexibility of tilt-up construction. The architectural features include layered tilt-up panels, expansive windows to maximize natural light, two-tone cast-in thin brick, and a textured concrete coating. STAR Inc., a CON/STEEL Alliance™ member, built this facility and LJB provided structural engineering.
This 200,000-square-foot warehouse and office expansion was constructed by The Korte Company, a CON/STEEL Alliance member. Given the sensitive nature of the electronics warehoused within this facility, Thermomass® insulated tilt-up sandwich panels were chosen over brick veneer and metal panel siding because of the superior ability to control interior temperature and humidity. LJB provided structural design for the facility.
SAA Architecture designed this two-story 13,000-square-foot office building with LJB providing structural design. This LEED-certified project clearly demonstrates that tilt-up construction can provide a cost-effective and architecturally striking building even with a footprint of only 6,500 square feet.
Once again, congratulations to the project teams at LJB, Star, The Korte Company, and SAA Architecture for these outstanding achievements.
