Memorial Day Remembrance

On May 30, 1868, the first official Memorial Day observance was held at Arlington National Cemetery to honor more than 20,000 soldiers of the Civil War. Today, Memorial Day serves as an opportunity to pause and remember the sacrifices of more than one million soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and coast guardsmen who have given their lives to secure our freedoms.

As a retired Air Force senior master sergeant, I have intimate knowledge of the importance and meaning of this day.  I encourage you to enjoy the holiday weekend and to take time to thank the men and women who fought for our freedoms.  Finally, be safe during the long holiday weekend as you spend time with family and friends.

Enjoy and reflect.
