The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certifies operators to protect both public health and the environment, which ensures that wastewater systems are operated properly by trained and qualified individuals. Tom Likavec, of LJB’s Cleveland, Ohio office, recently obtained his certification as a Class II Wastewater Operator through the Ohio EPA. Tom has been providing consulting services to municipal wastewater facilities throughout the past 40 years and acquired the certification to better serve those clients.
The certification required experience in the field, along with passing Class I and Class II exams. The certification ensures that wastewater operators are knowledgeable in how to operate the plant without impacts to the environment, how to operate collection systems that feed the plant, how to effectively manage staff at the plant, and how to effectively and efficiently manage maintenance on the facilities.
Since he understands the importance of this certification, Tom also volunteers his time on Saturdays to help other municipal operators prepare for the certification exams.
