Media Frenzy Around One Fall – Not Others

Hearing news and watching footage of the tragic fall at the Texas Rangers baseball game yesterday reminds us of how quickly a fatal fall can happen.  As a father of two sons, it also reminds me about how precious life is.  While this is certainly uncommon at a public sporting event, falls like this happen 1-2 times a day in American workplaces.  Just like in this instance, these are typically tragic accidents that may have been avoided by better protection or more careful actions.

Watching the media frenzy surrounding this incident made me realize that if this level of media attention was put onto occupational falls, we might get more traction for demanding better safety measures in the workplace.  When you see the continuing coverage of this incident, please remember all those who lost their lives at work as well.
