OSHA Fall Protection Violations Increase in 2010

Last week OSHA released its list of top 10 most-cited violations for 2010.  I wish I could tell you that fall protection violations dropped this year, but unfortunately, the opposite is the case.  Of the 94,000 violations in fiscal year 2010, scaffolding again topped the list, with fall protection just behind it at #2.

Although the rank is the same as last year, the actual violations increased 12%.  Last year, fall protection accounted for 6,771 violations, and this year’s number was 7,559.  Since scaffolding violations often involve some fall protection (or lack thereof), it’s clear that we still need to focus on protecting our workers at heights.

Hopefully your organization didn’t receive one of these violations, but with the numbers going up, we must keep a continual focus on achieving compliance and improving fall protection for our workers.
